Just for context remember the Germans are not seeing mermaids for the first time. if you remember they already cloned one. And Desharow has longed to study these creatures he is a scientist. So are his classmates and Dr. Da Vinci so they are not shocked by finding the mermaids because that was the purpose of this trip. It’s their life’s dream to study these creatures. The thing is and this may come off not as well expressed in this manhua as it did in the novel but everyone is truly terrified of them because of how strong and deadly they are. And they have experienced first hand now the mermaid’s brutality but they are still desperate to capture and study them. The reasons will be more laid out as the story goes on.
